At the cold edge (Zone 4), weeping willow can suffer winter branch dieback and needs a sheltered site away from harsh wind; at the warm edge (Zone 9-10), it grows extremely fast but has a shorter overall lifespan and is more prone to storm damage from brittle wood in intense summer thunderstorms. Across its whole range it performs best with a reliable, ample water source rather than average garden soil.
