Zone Performance
At the cold edge (zone 3), American elm is fully hardy and was historically one of the most widely planted street trees across the northern Great Plains and Midwest. In zone 9 at the warm edge, disease-resistant cultivars still perform well, but heat and humidity can increase pressure from elm leaf beetles compared to cooler regions.
